ABOUT ME
I experienced academic gatekeeping early in my life. Because I wasn't at the top of my class, I was told by mentors that my goals to attend top schools and pursue fellowships were unrealistic. However, through intense preparation and storytelling skills, I was able to overcome these obstacles to attend top universities, pursue 4 professional fellowships in 3 countries, and achieve my PhD with full funding. I founded the social enterprise ProFellow® in 2011 to help diverse candidates of all backgrounds find funding awards for their goals and access strategies to achieve them! ProFellow.com is now the world’s leading online resource for information on professional and academic fellowships. We offer a suite of free resources, including a free comprehensive funding database, as well as seminars, workshops and courses for fellowship and graduate school applicants. Many readers who benefit from ProFellow are BIPOC, first-generation college graduates, and other groups who are underrepresented in fellowship and graduate school admissions.

BIO
Dr. Vicki Johnson is Founder and Director of ProFellow®, the world’s leading online resource for professional and academic fellowships. She is a four-time fellow, top PhD scholar, Fulbright recipient, and an award-winning social entrepreneur. Before founding ProFellow, Dr. Johnson worked for 15 years in the field of public health preparedness and policy. At the age of 30, she was appointed Policy Director of the Obama Administration’s National Commission on Children and Disasters. She is an alumna of the New York City Urban Fellows Program, the German Chancellor Fellowship, the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship, and the Ian Axford Fellowship in Public Policy (Fulbright New Zealand). She holds a BA from Cornell University, an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK), and a PhD from Massey University (New Zealand). During her doctoral studies, she earned the Dean’s Award for Exceptional Theses.
